Guide: Connecting Sonos Sub to Your Sonos System via Wi-Fi

Overview

This guide explains how to wirelessly connect your Sonos Sub to your Sonos system using the Sonos app.

Important Notes

  • The Sonos Sub does not connect directly to your home Wi-Fi.
  • It links wirelessly to a primary Sonos speaker or home theater device (e.g., Amp, Beam, ARC) via Sonos’s private 5G connection.
  • The connection process is managed within the Sonos app.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Position & Power

  • Place your Sonos Sub in the desired location.
  • Leave clearance, especially around the Sub’s opening for proper sound.
  • Plug it in and power on. Wait until the LED glows solid white.

2. Troubleshooting (If Sub Isn’t Detected)

  • Factory Reset:
    1. Unplug the Sub.
    2. Wait 30 seconds.
    3. Press and hold the pair button, then plug it back in while continuing to hold the button.
    4. Hold until the LED flashes orange and white.

3. Use the Sonos App

  • Open the Sonos app on your phone.
  • Go to Settings > System or My System.
    • In older app versions: first select the room with your main Sonos speaker.
  • Tap Connect Sub and follow the app prompts.

4. Confirmation & Fine-Tuning

  • Once paired, the Sub will appear under the selected room in the app.
  • To adjust settings:
    • Go to Settings > Room > Sub Audio.
    • Options include: adjusting level, enabling/disabling, phase settings, etc.
