Enabling Anti-Spoofing Protection on Windows 11
Overview
Feature Purpose:
Makes it more difficult for malicious actors to use photos/videos to trick the system into unlocking.
Considerations:
May affect usability of external cameras for Windows Hello.
Devices without advanced hardware might struggle or fail during authentication.
Poorly lit environments may make facial recognition challenging.
Methods to Enable Windows Hello Face Protection
Method 1: Enable from Settings
Open the Start menu and open the
Settings
app.
Navigate to
Accounts
->
Sign-in options
.
Click on
Facial Recognition
and enable the enhanced facial recognition protection.
Click
Restart Now
for changes to take effect.
Method 2: Enable from Group Policy
Applicable Versions:
Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, Education
Open the Start menu and search for
group policy
or type
GPEdit
.
Navigate to
MS3D Templates
under
Computer Configuration
.
Go to
Windows Components
->
Biometrics
->
Facial Features
.
Right-click
Configure enhanced anti-spoofing policy
and choose
Edit
.
Select
Enable
, click
Apply
, then
OK
.
Restart the computer.
Method 3: Enable from the Registry
Caution:
Modifying the registry can be risky; ensure to backup before proceeding.
Open the Start menu and search for the
registry
.
Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft
.
Right-click the
Microsoft
key, select
New
->
Key
, and name it
Biometrics
.
Right-click the newly created key, select
New
->
Key
, and name it
FacialFeatures
.
Right-click on
FacialFeatures
, select
New
->
DWORD (32-bit) Value
.
Name it
EnhanceAntiSpoofing
, change the value to
1
.
Click
OK
and restart the computer.
Disabling the Protection
From Registry:
Set EnhanceAntiSpoofing key to
0
or delete the
Biometrics
folder.
