Guide: Connecting Your Garmin Watch to Your Garmin Edge Bike Computer

In this guide, you'll learn two methods to connect your Garmin watch to your Garmin Edge Bike computer: Broadcast Heart Rate and Extended Display Mode. Each method has its benefits depending on your preferred workflow during rides.

Method 1: Broadcast Heart Rate

Purpose: Use your Garmin watch as a heart rate monitor. The Garmin Edge records the ride and receives heart rate data from your watch.

Steps:

  1. On Your Garmin Edge

    • Open the menu.
    • Go to Sensors.
    • Tap Add Sensor.
    • Choose Heart Rate.
    • The Edge will begin searching for a heart rate signal.
  2. On Your Garmin Watch

    • Press and hold the menu button.
    • Scroll to Health and Wellness.
    • Tap Wrist Heart Rate.
    • Select Broadcast Heart Rate.
    • Tap Start to begin broadcasting.
  3. Complete Pairing

    • Wait for your Edge device to detect the watch as a heart rate sensor.
    • Select the detected sensor to complete the pairing.

Best for: Recording rides on the Edge while still sending heart rate data from your watch.

Method 2: Extended Display Mode

Purpose: Use the Edge as a live display for your Garmin watch. The activity is recorded on the watch, and you view real-time stats on the Edge.

Steps:

  1. On Your Garmin Edge

    • Open the menu.
    • Select Extended Display.
    • Tap Connect New Watch.
    • The Edge will begin searching.
  2. On Your Garmin Watch

    • Press and hold the menu button.
    • Scroll to Sensors and Accessories.
    • Tap Add New.
    • Choose Extended Display.
    • The watch will search for the Edge.
    • When the Edge is found, select it on the watch to connect.
  3. Confirmation

    • Once connected, you'll see a confirmation and the Edge will switch to Extended Display Mode.

Best for: Recording and storing activities directly on your watch, ideal for multisport sessions.

Tips
