TPM Setup and Verification Guide

Objectives

Importance of TPM

• Required for certain applications like Riot Vanguard with "Valorant".
• Necessary for secure boot and other Windows 11 features.

Verifying TPM Status

Windows Operating Systems (Windows 10 and Windows 11)

1. Check TPM Setup and Status:

   • Go to "Search", type "TPM.msc", and select it.
   • A ready status indicates TPM is set up.
   • If TPM is not set up, you will see a message: "Compatible TPM cannot be found."

2. Check TPM Version:

   • Ensure you have a 1.2 TPM or later turned on in the BIOS.
   • In the "Device Manager", verify that TPM 2.0 is listed under the security devices category.

Precautions Before Modifying TPM Settings

• Ensure BitLocker is not running:
  • Search "BitLocker", click "Manage BitLocker".
  • If BitLocker is on, turn it off and back up your recovery key.

Enabling TPM Through UEFI BIOS

1. Access UEFI BIOS:

   • Hold the left "Shift" key while rebooting, or use the keyboard shortcut specific to your PC.

2. Asus Motherboard Layout Example:

   • Enter "Advanced Mode" by pressing "F7".
   • Secure Boot Settings:
     • Check "Secure Boot" and set OS type to "Windows UEFI mode".
     • Install default secure boot keys when prompted.
   • TPM Settings:
     • Navigate to "AMD FTPM configuration" and select "Firmware TPM".
     • Go to "Trusted Computing" and enable device support.

3. Save and Reboot:

   • Select "Exit", "Save changes", and exit.
   • Verify TPM 2.0 device is found in "Trusted Computing" after reboot.

Final Verification

• Back in Windows:
  • Use "TPM.msc" from search to ensure TPM is ready and specification version is 2.0.
  • Verify in "Device Manager" that TPM 2.0 is listed.

Re-enable BitLocker (If previously enabled)

• Search "BitLocker" and click on "Manage BitLocker".
• Turn on for drives previously turned off.

Post-Setup

• Reboot if necessary for applications like "Valorant" due to Riot Vanguard requirements.
