CapCut Video Editing Tutorial: Trimming & Splitting Videos (Episode 2)

Objective

In this tutorial, learn how to easily trim and split a video using CapCut, focusing on clipping the first and last few seconds and removing a section from the middle.

Steps to Trim and Split Videos

Project Setup

1. Create a New Project: Name it "Trimming".
2. Project Settings: Use the raw video's aspect ratio, resolution, and frame rate.
3. Add Video to Project:
   • Select Local Media tab and drag & drop the raw video into the project.
   • Drag the video to the timeline's main track.

Timeline Overview

• The Player shows the raw video length (29 seconds, 28 frames).
• The timestamp indicates the Playhead's position on the Timeline.

Trimming the Video

1. Initial Trimming:

   • Place the Playhead where the hand is about to show.
   • Click "Delete Left" button to trim the beginning.

2. Trimming End:

   • Move the Playhead to the desired end trim point.
   • Click "Delete Right" button on the Timeline.

3. Multi-track Trimming:

   • Select the track or tracks to trim.
   • If no track is selected, trimming applies to the main track by default.

Splitting the Video

1. Method 1 - Timeline Toolbar:

   • Place the Playhead at the split point.
   • Click "Split" button on the Timeline toolbar.

2. Method 2 - Split Tool:

   • Select the Split tool from the Timeline’s drop-down menu.
   • Turn on the Preview Axis.
   • Position the mouse at the split point and click to split.

3. Removing Unwanted Clips:

   • Use the Select tool on the Timeline’s drop-down menu.
   • Click the unwanted clip to select it.
   • Click "Delete" button or press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Multi-track Trimming/Splitting

• Select all target tracks before trimming or splitting.
• Use the same methods as for single-track editing.

Practical Example

• Add an audio track to the project.
• To simultaneously trim the end of video and audio tracks:
  1. Place the Playhead at the desired split point.
  2. Select both tracks.
  3. Trim using the appropriate tool.
