How to Enable TPM for Your Computer

Introduction

• TPM (Trusted Platform Module) may not be set up from where you bought your computer, requiring self-setup.

• Windows 11 requires TPM but can be bypassed during installation.

Checking TPM Status

For Windows 10 and Windows 11:

1. Check TPM Setup:
   • Go to Search, type tpm.msc and select it.
   • Status should state "TPM is ready for use." If not, it may say "compatible TPM cannot be found."
2. Check TPM in Device Manager:
   • Go to Search, type Device Manager, and select it.
   • TPM 2.0 should be listed under Security Devices.

Precautions

• Ensure BitLocker is not running before checking TPM.
• BitLocker Settings:
  • Go to Search, type BitLocker, and click Manage BitLocker.
  • If on, turn BitLocker off and take a backup of your recovery key.

Accessing UEFI BIOS

1. Reboot and Access BIOS:
   • Option 1: Hold left shift key while rebooting, select Troubleshoot > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.
   • Option 2: Reboot normally and use motherboard shortcut to access UEFI BIOS.

Enable TPM in BIOS (ASUS Intel Motherboards)

1. Check Secure Boot:
   • Enter Advanced Mode with F7.
   • Ensure Secure Boot is set up; OS Type to Windows UEFI mode.
   • Install Default Secure Boot Keys, select Yes.
2. Intel Motherboards Configuration:
   • For 11th-gen and older processors: Go to PCH-FW Configuration; ensure PTT is enabled.
   • For 12th- and 13th-gen processors: Enable Firmware TPM.
   • Save changes, exit, reboot, and confirm TPM2.0 is found.

Verify TPM Setup

1. Back in Windows:
   • Go to Search, type tpm.msc, confirm specification version 2.0.
   • Check Device Manager for Security Devices > Trusted Platform Module 2.0.

Final Steps

• Re-enable BitLocker if previously disabled.
