How to Reset Your ThinkPad Docking Station

Objective

Soft Reset Method

  1. Disconnect your laptop from the docking station.
  2. Unplug the docking station’s power cable.
  3. Disconnect all connected devices (HDMI, Ethernet, USB, etc.) from the dock.
  4. Wait for 30 to 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cable back into the dock.
  6. Reconnect your laptop to the dock.

Soft reset resolves most minor issues.

Hard Reset Method

  1. Disconnect your laptop from the dock.
  2. Unplug the dock's power cable.
  3. Locate the power button on the dock.
  4. Press and hold the power button for 15 to 30 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cable back in (do not connect the laptop yet).
  6. Wait until the dock fully powers on.
  7. Reconnect your laptop.

Use if the soft reset does not solve the problem.

Additional Workaround (User-Shared Tip)

  • Shut down your laptop before docking.
  • If you experience issues (such as white light pulsing on dock):
    • Unplug the dock from power.
    • Plug it back in.
    • Press the now orange power button on the dock.
    • Power on the laptop.
    • Open and then close the laptop screen to trigger one monitor.
    • After logging in, open and close the laptop again to activate the second monitor.

This helps wake up external monitors that are unresponsive after docking.
